Who we are

As a UK registered charity BTE is led by a Board of Trustees.

As of February 2009 the BTE Board is:

  • Hilary Thompson
  • Scott Poynton
  • Louise Thompson
  • Dr. Alan Knight OBE.

Company Secretary is IEL Management Services.

BTE is led by Executive Director Hilary Thompson

The BTE team has worked in the field of ethical trade for many years and has built up considerable expertise in this time. BTE passionately believes that businesses that genuinely care about their impact on their global supply chains can make real and sustained progress towards a more ethical trading system. Seeing the impact that retailers and manufacturers can have in supply chains and their surrounding communities worldwide, inspires us to continue to support this work wherever we can.

As our goal is to encourage and assist improvement in labour standards rather than to create a commercial enterprise, BTE was established as a not for profit organisation in 2004, converting to a charity in October 2008. This enables us to reinvest resources where they can really make a difference. BTE works as a team, but also within a network of like minded associates each with their own specialities, knowledge and experience that they can bring to specific projects.
